AI rep counter

Counting reps in your head is harder than it sounds once you’re tired. This free AI rep counter does it for you: prop up your phone, press Start training and move. It recognises 28 exercises by itself, counts every full rep out loud, leaves out the half reps, and counts the reps of almost any other exercise too.

How to use it

  1. Open the coach and press Start training. Allow the camera when your browser asks.
  2. Prop your phone 2 to 3 metres away with your whole body in view. For push-ups, planks and sit-ups, put it on the floor to your side.
  3. Get into your start position and hold still for a second.
  4. Start your set. There’s nothing to pick: the coach recognises the exercise on your first rep, which already counts, and calls out every rep after it. Press Finish set when you’re done.

What counts as a rep

A rep counts when you go through the full movement: down to depth and back up again. The coach measures the joint angles that matter for each exercise, so a squat counts when your thighs drop well past a quarter squat and you stand back up, and a push-up when your elbows bend to about 90 degrees and straighten again.

A rep that stops short doesn’t count, and the coach says so straight away. That keeps the count honest: the number you finish with is the number of full reps you really did, which is the number worth writing down.

Exercises it doesn’t know by name

Doing side bends, shadow boxing or your physio’s exercises? Keep going. After a few steady reps, the coach works out which part of you is moving, counts each full movement and calls the count out loud. It can’t check your form on an exercise it doesn’t know, but your reps still count.

Why count your reps?

Your rep count is how you know you’re getting stronger. If you did 12 push-ups last week and 15 this week, that’s progress you can see, and it tells you when an exercise has become easy enough to make harder. See progressive overload at home and how many sets and reps to do. The coach saves every set to your history, on your device, with its form score.

Tips for an accurate count

The 28 exercises it recognises

Legs & glutes: squat, lunge, romanian deadlift, side lunge, glute bridge, calf raise, wall sit.

Upper body: push-up, knee push-up, bicep curl, shoulder press, lateral raise, front raise, bent-over row, overhead tricep extension, tricep dip, pull-up.

Core: plank, side plank, crunch, sit-up, lying leg raise, mountain climbers.

Cardio: jump squat, jumping jacks, high knees, butt kicks, burpee.

Anything else gets its reps counted too.

Questions and answers

Is the rep counter free?

Yes, completely: no account, no trial and nothing to install. Ads on the website pay for it, and they never show while you train.

Do I have to choose the exercise first?

No. The coach recognises the exercise on your first rep, which already counts, and you can switch exercises between sets.

Does it count half reps?

No. A rep only counts when it reaches the depth the exercise needs, and the coach tells you when one didn't.

Does it work with weights?

Yes. It tracks your body, not the weight, so dumbbell curls, goblet squats, shoulder presses and rows are counted the same way.

Is my video uploaded?

No. The tracking runs on your device: your video is never uploaded, recorded or stored, and you don't need an account.

Ready? Prop up your phone.

It's the same free AI coach for every exercise: it recognises what you're doing, counts out loud and tells you when your form slips.
