Jumping jack counter
Jumping jacks are fast, which makes them hard to count in your head. This free jumping jack counter does it for you: it counts every jack out loud as you go, only when your hands make it overhead, and tells you when your feet aren’t jumping wide.

How to use it
- Open the coach and press Start training. Allow the camera when your browser asks.
- Prop your phone 2.5 to 3 metres away, facing you, with room in the frame for your arms overhead and your feet out wide.
- Stand tall with your arms by your sides and hold still for a second.
- Start jumping. The coach recognises jumping jacks on your first one, which already counts, and keeps count at any pace. Press Finish set when you’re done.
What counts as a jumping jack
Each jack is one jump out and back in. The coach watches your arms: a jack counts when your hands go from your sides to overhead and back down. It also checks that your feet jump out wider than your shoulders.
- Arms not overhead: hands that stop at shoulder height don’t count.
- Arms a bit low: the jack counts, but reach right up over your head.
- Feet not wide: the jack counts, but jump your feet out wider than your shoulders.
Face the camera
Unlike squats or push-ups, jumping jacks are counted facing the camera, or at a slight angle: that’s the view where your arms and feet spread out. From the side, your arms and legs move towards the camera and are much harder to see.
Jumping jacks in your workout
- Warm-up: 30 to 60 seconds of jumping jacks raises your heart rate before squats and push-ups. See how to warm up.
- Cardio intervals: 30 seconds of jacks, 30 seconds of rest, for 6 to 10 rounds.
- Low impact: step out to the side instead of jumping. The coach still counts each rep when your arms go overhead.
- Challenges: going for 100 in a row? The count is out loud, so you never lose track.
What the coach checks
- Feet not wide. Jump your feet out wider than your shoulders.
- Arms not overhead. Bring your hands all the way overhead on every jack.
- Arms a bit low. Reach your hands right up over your head.

Questions and answers
How fast can I go?
As fast as you like: the counter keeps up with quick jumping jacks, as long as your hands go overhead on each one.
Why didn’t some of my jumping jacks count?
Your hands probably stopped short of overhead, or left the top of the frame. Step back so your hands stay in view at the top.
Can I stand side-on to the camera?
Face the camera, or stand at a slight angle. From the side, the coach can't see your arms and feet spread out.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The tracking runs on your device: your video is never uploaded, recorded or stored, and you don't need an account.
